John H. Ash papers, 1860-1865.

The collection consists of twenty-one small volumes (1860-1865), two letters, documents, notes, clippings, a review, and an essay relating to the 5th Regiment Georgia Cavalry during and after the Civil War. Twenty volumes are diaries and one is a sick report; letters are from Co. A. Lt.Commander Sandy Duncan; an essay is on the "Choice of a Wife"; the review by Ash is of Dagg's MANUAL OF THEOLOGY; documents are miscellaneous orders issued, instructions, and permissions for leave.

John H. Ash, Confederate Civil War soldier and clergyman, was born in 1843, in Savannah, Georgia, and died on 3 June 1918, in Savannah, Georgia. During the Civil War, he served in Company B, 5th Regiment Georgia Cavalry (Georgia Hussars).
